Description

Assignment:
Create levels for a 2D platform game using Maya 3D.

Process:
Started of designing on paper, then recreated it as a white collision map in Maya.. An artist would then create the 3D graphics over it. Players have an attention span of 5 minutes, so I made sure the levels weren't too lengthy. I did however at the time not realize that what takes me about 4 and a half minute takes a kid without experience nearly 15 minutes. The solution to this problem turned out to make the game better then originally intended. Initially we wanted the players to play through these levels a couple times with different objectives, like in Mario world 64. This felt quite boring, as the start and end point were always the same with only different paths in between. But seeing as I had made the levels too long we could just have different starting and ending points, and the levels didn't feel the same.

Result:
Better levels then intended by exploiting my own weakness.
